Twenty-five years ago a song was created that spoke volumes about what appear to be real issues or problems that many black, brown, and or socioeconomically deprived individuals face today. The video displays young black and brown people making a protest statement. “They Don’t Care About Us” is the fifth single from Michael Jackson‘s album HIStory: Past, Present, and Future, Book I, released on June 16, 1995. It is a protest song and remains one of the most controversial pieces Jackson ever composed. Most of the individuals in this video represent the many systemic injustices black and brown people have faced for years and today creating the movement statement “Black Lives Matter”. Unfortunately, many do not see the outcry for protest statements such as “They Don’t Care About Us” or “Black Lives Matter” and some believe and think that systemic racism still actually does not exist today. In fact, some think that any of these protest statements presented is actually someone playing the victim. What do you think? Please leave your comments.
